Personal Life & Education

Professor Hassan was born in Comilla, Bangladesh. He came to the United States in 1983 to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Mathematics from Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota. He received his Master’s in Economics and Doctor of Philosophy in Finance from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, respectively. 
He currently resides in New Orleans, Louisiana with his wife, Dr. Tahmina Hassan, and two children. His wife works as an internal medicine and geriatrics medicine at the VA hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana. Their daughter, Aniqa, graduated from Harvard University in 2016 with a major in neurobiology and a minor in global health. She is now completing her Masters in Global Health and Population at the TH Chan School of Public Health at Harvard University. Their son, Arman, also graduated from Harvard University in 2018 with a major in Economics and a minor in computer science. Arman is now an Associate at Bain and Company.
Professor Hassan is a frequent traveler; he has consulted and taught lectures and workshops around the United States and abroad (Malaysia, Germany, Saudi Arabia, and Indonesia).
